Background:
Situated in a small village seven miles east of Northampton which has only recently experienced new housing development, Walgrave's catchment area encompasses three other small villages. Opened in 1911 as an all-age school, a post-war prefabricated unit housed the infants' block until 1992 when it were replaced with two classrooms on the main block. Another remains and is used as the dining room and accommodation for the local playgroup. A small grass area forms an additional playground in the summer and a venue for May dancing. Sports matches take place on a nearby playing field. There are close community links, especially with the local Church of England church and Baptist chapel. Each term children are encouraged to support a charity, recently for Macmillan Nurses coffee morning and to help a fellow pupil with a tumour go to Disneyland.
