Background:
Built in 1974, Ryelands Middle is set in a 'large, attractive' landscaped site on the north-western outskirts of Northampton. 'Particular strengths' of the school are pupils' personal and social development, attitudes to learning, the 'wide' range of extra-curricular activities and 'good' links with the community. The school received a Sportsmark award and has success at county and national level in a number of sports. In the Northamptonshire Key Stage 2 league tables, Ryelands has been one of the top three middle schools for the past four years. The 'well-resourced' special educational needs (SEN) department consists of a senior member of staff and 12 learning support assistants. Assistance is provided for pupils with learning, emotional/behavioural and/or physical difficulties. The school has recently been adapted for wheelchair-bound pupils.
