Background:

Long Buckby Junior was built in 1974 to serve the villages of Long Buckby, Watford and Long Buckby Wharf, all of which have direct access to the M1 and a rail link to London Euston. Parents from other villages and from Daventry also choose to send their children to the school, which as a result, is slightly over subscribed. There are seven classrooms and other teaching areas for practical work in science, technology, art and mathematics. Classrooms are arranged in teaching teams around a 'fully-equipped' hall. There is a 'well-stocked' library and all rooms enjoy computer provision and 'full' internet access. The school adjoins the village sports complex. The grounds consist of playground areas bordered by grass and small trees and there is provision within the sports complex for football, cricket, athletics and summer games. The school has its own indoor, heated swimming pool. A 'wide range' of extra-curricular activities is offered including gymnastics, netball, football, rounders, choir, calligraphy and a wildlife watch group. There are many musical opportunities with violin, 'cello, keyboard, flute, clarinet and brass tuition available. The school enjoys a 'strong' tradition of sporting involvement with 'successful' teams for football, athletics and netball. It also enjoys links with local sporting clubs such as Northampton Rugby and Football Clubs. Children participate in coaching sessions and tournaments in cricket, indoor athletics and mini basketball. In 1997 the school was awarded the basic skills agency quality mark. An 'energetic' group of parents run a school association and the group is 'actively' supported by many local businesses. The school is seen as an 'important focal point' in this 'close knit' community and the pupils are regularly involved in village projects with other organisations.
