Background:
The school opened in 1954, since when it has doubled in size, and serves a largely rural catchment area to the north of Northampton. It occupies an 'attractive, well-landscaped' site and is housed in 'many fine buildings', including the 'outstanding' RIBA Award-winning sixth form centre and an 'excellent' sports complex which includes a sports hall, fitness suite and extensive, floodlit, outdoor artificial turf pitches. A new drama and English centre opened in 2000. The school has 'all-round strengths' in National Curriculum subjects and in recent years exam results in English, modern foreign languages and science have been 'particularly good'. Extra-curricular subjects are also 'strong' and include sport, the arts and school visits. The school has achieved a Sportsmark award. 'Moulton School has something of a traditional atmosphere. However, our approach to curriculum development is forward-looking. Pupils are encouraged to achieve.' The school is slightly over-subscribed.
