Background:

Northampton School for Girls founded in 1915. It is the only state school for girls in Northampton and therefore admits students from all of the primary schools in the town and in the surrounding area. The school was the first in the country to be designated a specialist school for music. Music is strength of the school, with a very wide range of extra-curricular music and over 300 students taking instrumental tuition. The curriculum offer however ensures that students are able to develop their abilities and interests, across the curriculum. At Key Stage 3, all students study drama in addition to the national curriculum subjects and able linguists can take Spanish or German in addition to French. At Key Stage 4, students may continue with two languages or study three science or GNVQ in Information and Communication Technology. The school aims to combine an emphasis on traditional values such as responsibility, honesty and respect for learning, with care for the individual and relationships based on trust and respect. It has high expectations of all of its students in every aspect of school life.
